Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies

Hi Bakers! Tis the season to make something pretty and Christmas-y! Here is an awesome & quite clever recipe for Stacked Xmas Tree Cookies!

The cookies are thick and crispy and the look of them could not be cuter.

All you need is 3 different sized star cookie cutters… I used a 1/4″ star, 1/2″ star, and a 1″ star. For each stacked Christmas Tree is 2 1″ stars, 3 1/2″ stars and 2-3 1/4″ stars.

Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies
Rolled Sugar Cookies
(makes 60 1″ cookies)

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. *Add green food coloring, if you wish to color your dough.* Next, stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

4. Stack the star cookies 2 1″ cookies, 3 1/2″ cookies and 2-3 1/4″ cookies. Top off with a gumpaste or fondant flower… or use a gumdrop!

I'm adding the ingredients to my grocery list, reading thru the recipe, and have a silly ? – how soft should the butter be, like completely liquified, or just soft enough to be able to mix that and the sugar together in the mixer? thanks!

chey can cook- the butter should be room temperature, softened enough so it mixes well with the butter, but definitely not liquified!
